Patching the Patch Up

Lately Blizzard have been making a great deal of fixes and changes to the game (post Patch 3.1). And it looks like most of the changes have been for Ulduar and some other minor fixes. So I have mad a compilation of quotes from the blizzard staff convienently taken from my heroes at MMO-Champion. (Note: I realise that the blue posts have some issues and I will try and fix this)

Quote from: Blizzard Staff

Noblegarden

  • Spring Flowers will not cast or go on cooldown if the target already has the buff.

Ulduar
  • Pure Saronite mining nodes have temporarily been disable in Ulduar and will return in the future.
  • The Ignis the Furnace Master encounter has received the following changes: The interrupt effect and duration of the damage from Flame Jets has been reduced, the damage from the Slag pot has been reduced, the number of Heat stacks needed to transform an Iron Construct into a Molten state has been reduced, the base melee damage done by Ignis has been reduced, and the damage bonus Ignis receives from Strength of the Creator has been slightly increased.

Priest
  • The effectiveness of the Priest spell Divine Hymn has been reduced.
  • The Priest ability Soul Warding now only reduces the mana cost of Power Word: Shield by 15% instead of 30%. The tooltip for this spell will be updated at a later date.

We're currently in the process of making further difficulty adjustments via hotfix to the following encounters:

  • Ignis the Furnace Master
  • Razorscale
  • XT-002 Deconstructor
  • The Assembly of Iron
  • Kologarn
  • Auriaya

The difficulty of these encounters is being lowered in multiple ways. Some of the adjustments are live already, others will be live soon. Note that some of the spell tooltips for the encounter will not reflect the hotfixes being deployed until the next patch. As the hotfixes are deployed, the Service Status board will be updated. You can check the current hotfix thread here:
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=16474158165&sid=1

Further adjustments are highly likely to some of the other encounters in Ulduar, but these were the highest priority encounters for us. We want to allow additional players to experience more of the cool Ulduar content.

Two-Hand Tanking Weapons
There are some high stamina, 2-handed maces in the game currently. However, 2 handed weapons are not in the immediate future going to be given tanking statistics. This is simply because both of the classes who can use these items to tank have been, more or less, designed around the premise that they would not need the additional itemization in those slots to make them effective. We also don't want to create an entirely new branch of items that will also clog up loot tables for a fraction of the population, especially when it's been handled in other more unique ways.

Yogg-Saron Clouds bug
We're looking into this, and can verify that you can rarely trigger the spawning of a Guardian of Yogg-Saron without being "in" the cloud.

Arena Balance
  • 1) Players tend to over-emphasize whatever makes the strongest case for themselves. We do have Arena teams beyond 2s and 2s are probably always going to be the trickiest to balance.
  • 2) Even if we do nothing, comps tend to change over time. Players develop counter strategies and new fotms roll around. That isn't an excuse to do nothing, but it is worth keeping in mind.
  • 3) We let DK and pally stay dominant too long last season. Rogue - priest looks like it is heading the same way. We don't think it's good for the pvp game for such comps to be so dominant.
  • 4) We are happy with both classes in PvE. Any changes would just be for PvP reasons. Glyphs are a good place to look.
  • 5) I would like to personally request that you chill any "QQ got us nerfed" rhetoric. We'd much rather focus on the classes in question and not our decision making process.

Strands of the Ancients coin toss
The plan is to implement the virtual coin toss at the beginning of the match randomizing which faction starts on defense in an upcoming patch. This was originally slated for 3.1 but had to be pushed back. Other temporary fixes for the issue would take just as long to implement, if not result in the same issues caused by randomizing offense/defense that came about in Beta.

Nethaera (Announcement)

Equipement Manager and new Argent Tournament mounts
These improvements had been in the works already. We have a hierarchy of things that must make a patch and things that we can add in later. We often utilize the smaller patches (when we can) to implement things that either needed further testing or needed additional time. Large patches often have many interconnected items sewn within the technology and the way we want things to work that make some aspects absolutely necessary to implementing the patch as a whole. Smaller patches can and do happen as we need them to in order to better support the larger patches either by implementing a starting framework, implementing bug fixes, or adding new elements that can stand on their own.

We definitely have a schedule (internal) that we are working from and are doing what we can to keep on that schedule as much as possible. Things like this, often have less impact on the release of large content patches.

Argent Tournament Mounts clarifications
The current mounts in the game are being updated to the new look. If you already purchased a mount from the Argent Tournament vendor by the time this minor patch goes live, your mount will be updated with the new look automatically. The cost for the updated mounts (new look) will be 100 Champion's Seals.

[...] Just to clarify on this point, the new ways of obtaining Champion's Seals will not be added until the next major content patch (not the minor content patch referenced in the original post of this thread).

Ulduar - Second Week - Sunday

It is raid day again and today we continued our journey in Ulduar 25 and we started where we left it on Thursday, at The Iron Council. After getting the tactics planted in the heads of the newcomers of this boss we started off with a couple of fast wipes because of tank healer DC and some random big hit sequence on the tank.

After a while we got the encounter under control and we had a really close wipe. The next try we managed to have total control and have no one die until the last phase when a few died because we had to dps like mad before he enraged. About 1-3 seconds before enrage, the boss died. My guess is that we did not use the Rune of Power enough and it gimped our dps a bit.

The Iron Council Loot:

[Iron-studded Mantle] - Brzydal
[Radiant Seal] - Riperslo
[Runeshaper's Gloves] - Rename

Now it was time to have a showdown with the Crazy Cat Lady again. At this stage we had a long discussion and alot of tactic testing for different types of pulls so we could find out what was the best one to approach her with. We got a few tries on her at last but we did not kill her. So today we hope to see her fall with the tactic that we found most effective.

Ulduar - 10 Man - Fun Progress

On Saturday we found out that we should get a 10 man Ulduar raid going so we could get more experience of the bosses and some loot. We gathered a pretty decent team and ventured (kind of late) in to Ulduar. Now in 25 man we had only killed bosses up to The Iron Council/Auriaya so most of us had not tried out the bosses beyond.

The raid had a really high speed and we killed off all bosses flawlessly until council, where we tried out "Medium" mode killing off Runemaster Molgeim last. This did not go as well as we planned though, we got the first two down but Runemaster Molgeim killed us off too quickly when he was the only one left. So we stuck to the plan of getting as many bosses as possible down and quickly killed them off in normal mode.

Now was the time for our beloved Crazy Cat Lady which we had only scratched in 25 man and this went pretty well after only a couple of wipes. Then we started clearing towards Freya, which I found very entertaining because of the composition of mobs and abilities they had. We killed off the three guardians and took her down on our second try since we kind of failed in killing the packs of three mobs within 12 seconds of eachother the first try. The fight itself was a pretty fun fight and I like bosses like this that you just dont stand mindlessly and spam a few buttons and hope that you can do enough dps/hps/tps.

Now came the boss we really was not prepared to meet, Hodir. Hodir is one of the more enjoyable boss fights I have played (even though he owned us a lot). In this fight you really have to focus because there is alot to watch out for and to do at the same time. After alot of dodging icicles, freeing flash freezed allies, removing biting cold by running around and not getting ice blocked by the flash freezes we wiped again and again, until we called last try, and downed him! Overjoyed as we were we found out that it was for the best to quit while we were happy and content with a very well played raid, though it was 03:00+ as well.

All in all 9 bosses down and 10 happy raiders :)

WWS - Strange DPS

I looked at WWS for some DPS reports to have something to relate to and I stumbled over a really (hopefully) bugged report from XT-002 Deconstructor. The guild is anonymus so it is kind of problematic to get some comments for this. Anyways, here is the picture of the wws and here is the link to the report itself.

As you can see the total raid DPS is 231,255 which is really ridicolous, especially when the #2 ranked Deconstructor kill have a raid DPS of 117,079. Top DPS having almost 17,000 DPS and 17 of the players having over 10,500 DPS. I mean, it has to be some kind of bug or they found a really big bug at the boss and exploited it to the max. Too bad we don't have any clarification for this report but I hope it will be fixed soon either wws or the boss.

Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings Revealed

Yesterday Blizzard either made an error or intended to show off their newest legendary item Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient King by making it available on the official Armory site. Someone took a screenshot of the weapon and it seems it was a good idea since the weapon is not available on the armory any more. Below you will find the screenshot that MMO-Champion posted.

With this i guess the lucky people with fragments are having a smile right now and looking forward to finish the questline.

Here is MMO-Champions video of the legendary weapon as well:

Ulduar - Second Week - Thursday

From now on I will do the raid overviews and loot lists in single posts for each day. The reason for this is that it will be easier to read and it gives a better post overview and less posts in general. I will post complete loot lists at the end of the raid week to give a nice overview of how we did that week.

So onward to the tales of the brave AMB members!

Yesterday we continued our conquest through Ulduar. We continued from where we left it on Wednesday, at Kologarn. We managed trashmobs a lot better today so we got to the boss pretty easy. After some refreshment of tactics and discussion about the positioning we started the wipefest. After a few tries people started to manage the evasion of the lasers pretty nicely and we started to get a good progress. After a few more tries we got some people with connection issues which left us idling for a while and sharpening the edge of our tactics. People got online again and after a few tries we downed him with great joy!

Kologarn Loot:

[Leggings of the Stoneweaver] - Arava
[Decimator's Armguards] - Quasimodo
[Malice] - Disenchanted (OMG? No Rogues in raid, and no one wanted it)

We even got an Enchant Formula:

[Formula: Enchant Weapon - Blood Draining] - Riperslo

After getting our loot we had a small break and then we continued down to Auriaya, the so called Crazy Cat Lady. We cleared out trash so we could have a good spot to fight her, went through tactics and buffed up. We went for the stack up around the corner and Death and Decay / Misdirection pull. We read that this was a tricky pull but... Damn we wiped in 15 seconds! So res up and get ready for another try. Same result. So we figured that we should go for The Iron Council because of the time. While clearing the trash to The Iron Council we found a random drop.

Random Loot:
Trash cleared and we were waiting a while for disconnected members. We went for the normal mode starting with Steelbreaker. After a few tries we managed to get Steelbreaker down and then we started working on Runemaster Molgeim. All seemed well until he casted Rune of Death which pretty much killed most of the raid since we were positioned pretty near him and close to each other. After this the raid was over for today.

Another good day for AMB raiding in my opinion as we killed one boss and got to try out two new ones. Looking forward to sunday for more progress.

Loot List - Second Week - Wednesday

Here is the loot list for the first day of our second week in Ulduar. As I said earlier we had much better progress this week and we downed three bosses the first day. Note that we may have gotten items which got disenchanted. Theese would not be in the list for this day.

Flame Leviathan:

[Steamworker's Goggles] - Arava
[Glowing Ring of Reclamation] - Alliance
[Strength of the Automaton] - Dracolord
[Fragment of Val'anyr] - Arava

Razorscale:

[Saronite Mesh Legguards] - Kiwicrash
[Collar of the Wyrmhunter] - Insira
[Drape of the Drakerider] - Dracolord

XT-002 Deconstructor:

[Signet of the Earthshaker] - Razzvan
[Shoulderplates of the Deconstructor] - Swordblight
[Sandals of Rash Temperament] - Alliance

Loot List - First Week

Thought I could make a loot list over what we got from Ulduar as we progress. So here is the first post with the first week of Ulduar.

Flame Leviathan:

[Steamworker's Goggles] - Mæzistaa
[The Leviathan's Coil] - Aletto
[Strength of the Automaton] - Ielenia

Razorscale:

[Razorscale Shoulderguards] - Nienor
[Bracers of the Broodmother] - Ethion

As I said earlier we had a great deal of tries on XT-002 Deconstructor but we did not manage to kill him, thus not much loot this week.

Ulduar - Second Week - Wednesday

As we did not do very well last week we hope that this week will be more successful, and it was. Yesterday we went to Ulduar and we had no problems with either Flame Leviathan, Razorscale or Deconstructor. We downed all of them pretty fast and we to be honest we wiped more on Deconstructor trash mobs which I have to say was some vicious mobs. Flame Leviathan dropped our first [Fragment of Val'anyr] which went to our Shaman healer, Arava. We skipped Ignis and continued down to the second wing.

We cleared the mobs in the first hallway so that we could reach Kologarn who is Titan and so big that you fight his arms, which is pretty amusing. Here we remained wiping on some pewpew lazers from his eyes and some random unlucky 3 x Healers getting cought by his Stone Grip. It was a good day for AMB raiding and we are looking forward to kill some more bosses today!
